to West Oakland Camera Club. Our meetings are always open to the public. The main purpose of our club is to advance the photographic abilities of our members by sharing knowledge and techniques.

Our members also enjoy sharing their images in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. West Oakland has been in existence for over 20 years and we are affiliated with the Greater Detroit Camera Club Council (GDCCC). As mentioned, our meetings are always open to the public, though we hope you will join and participate in our activities.

The club meets twice a month at the Nature Center in Kensington Metro Park near Milford Michigan (click here for a Map). The meeting times are 7:30 PM on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month (except for November and December when we combine both meetings into the first meeting of those months). The first meeting of the month includes slide competitions in two categories, Nature and Color Slide. We also hold our Digital Capture and Digital Open competitions during the first monthly meeting.

In order to level the playing field, we have 4 levels of competition from Beginner to Expert (aka Star). During the second

meeting of the month, we have assignment competition in which all members can compete against each other (regardless of experience level) in a slide or print format. Also, during this meeting, a club member (or invited guest speaker) will present an informative program on a variety of photographic topics.

You can keep in contact with other club members by signing up to use the club's e-mail list or by visiting the online bulletin board. To further enhance your photographic skills, our website has quite a few articles, tips, tutorials and links.  We also have an extensive library of photography related video tapes which members can rent for a nominal fee.

Please note that members are not required to compete so don't let the competitions keep you away. If you enjoy viewing dazzling images, if you like taking pictures, if you want to improve your photography skills, if you like ideas on when and where to shoot or if you'd like to meet some down to earth folks who share your interests, please stop by.
