Save Money (time and other important stuff)

Everybody loves to save a buck and our members are no different. These WOCC folks have found a variety of ways to save. Here are a few we've heard about recently:
  1. Do you have high speed internet access? Then you should install a firewall (a firewall is software which monitors programs [on your computer] trying to access the internet and also keeps nasties out on the internet, from scanning your computer to find a way in!). Zone Alarm is an excellent firewall which learns (which programs are allowed to access the internet) as you use it. Best of all it's free from ZoneLabs.com. If you visit their site they will try to get you to upgrade to Zone Alarm Pro but just keep following the links for the free one (Zone Alarm). "I've been using it for 2 years and it works great." 2. You can save a lot of money on ink cartridges and papers (including Epson) from Atlex (Atlantic Exchange). To save on shipping find a friend who needs to order something at the same time and split the shipping cost.

  3. Save 50% or more off the Borders or Barnes and Nobel list prices when you buy books from the used section of Amazon.com.  Within the "used" book section are brand new, never been opened books which are available from bookstores around the country. Just do a search for the book title once you get to Amazon.com. Then in the results page look near the bottom for information on used books. Click and you'll be amazed at the discounts. Just be sure to pick a reputable seller as evidenced by the number of transactions and positive feed back.

  4. If you're purchasing cameras, lenses, tripods, other photographic equipment or film you owe to yourself to check prices from B&H Camera (or Adorama) out of New York. These are reputable sellers and they generally have better prices than those available locally. While there are shipping costs, they may be offset by not having to pay sales tax on your purchase. (Caution! Use taxes are still owed to the State of Michigan because they have a separate tax which kicks in when sales taxes are exempted.)
